December, 2001 - Global Marine Electronics would like to extend a sincere congratulations to shipping agent Peter Morland of C.B. Fenton and Company on his recent retirement.  Mr. Morland's services for ship-owning companies is world renowned and will be left in very capable hands.  The entire staff here at Global Marine Electronics wishes Mr. Moreland the best of luck in the future and hopes that he enjoys his retirement to the fullest extent.

May, 2001 - Global Marine Electronics has formed a service partnership with Enterprise Electronics Corporation (EEC) of Enterprise, Alabama of the United States of America.  EEC is a leading provider of high performance Doppler radar equipment and meteorological data analysis software.  We look forward to working with EEC in the years to come in providing weather radar solutions at the Panama Canal.

March, 2001 - A seminar was hosted by Global Marine Electronics in Panama covering the electronic navigation requirements of the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS).    The event took place at the Galleon Restaurant in Balboa and centered on Global Marine Electronic's acceptance as an external class approved for GMDSS surveys.   In attendance were Jose Carvajal, A. Santos and Roberto Jurado of NK Nippon Kaiji Kyoka; Wayne Lipenski, of the American Bureau of Shipping, Mario Breton and Jose Chong, of Bureau Veritas and Germanischer Lloyd; Juan Carlos Hernandez and George Preseno, of Lloyd's Register; and private surveyor, Buster Carr.  Mr. Dennis of Global Marine Electronics conducted the seminar.  Subjects covered were GMDSS survey procedures for communications and navigation equipment as per the standards established by SOLAS, main reserve and emergency power sources for equipment, VHF radio, VHF DSC, MF/HF radio, DSC controllers, MF/HF DSC watch receivers, Inmarsat ship earth stations, Navtex enhanced group call, EPIRB (emergency position indicating radio beacon), portable VHF radio, SART radio transponder, GFS, radars, ARPA, and radio direction finders.  This is the first seminar attended by all class surveyors, and Mr. Dennis said he hopes to make it a yearly event for an interchange of ideas and suggestions.  "This can only enhance and improve surveys carried out in Panama.  It is important that both local and international ship owners and shipping agents are aware of the services that can be provided by an experienced group of class surveyors and engineers."

The seminar concluded with an understanding that future meetings will be held as a concerted effort to enhance Panama's reputation as a premium service center for class surveys and GMDSS radio surveys.
